CONYERS Posted Wednesday, December 5, 2018 6:00 am Patricia Ruth Hughes Conyers, age 73, beloved wife of 54 years to Thomas Ashton Conyers, died on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at her residence. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lila Brown Hughes. Mrs. Conyers was a supervisor at the commissary at Shaw Air Force Base for many years. She was known for making good cakes and was a loving and strong lady. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Conyers was associated with the Sumter Seventh Day Adventist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra C. Newell and her husband, Tony, and Janet C. Hamilton; one son-in-law, Gregory K. Hamilton; two brothers, William "Billy" Hughes and his wife, Dot, and Harold Hughes and his wife, Mildred, all of Sumter; three grandchildren, Katelyn Hamilton, Taylor Ellison and her husband, Brandon, and Lindsey Frederick; and one great-grandchild, Adam Ellison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lila "Dolly" Reed; and four brothers, J.G. Hughes, Bobby Hughes, Eddie Hughes and Terry Hughes. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Samuel Bonham officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
