The will is dated 16 January 1788. Recorded in Lancaster County, VA Will Book 22, page 98. The will names the following children: Spencer Wilder, William Wilder, John Wilder, Vincent Wilder, Frances Wilder and Mary James Wilder. The following minor children were placed under guardianship: William Wilder - guardian John Watts; John Wilder - guardian John Sullivan; Vincent Wilder - guardian James Brent; Frances Wilder - guardian Jesse Robinson; and Mary James Wilder - guardian Michael Wilder. Jonathan Wilder's will specifically states: "I give MY OLDEST SON SPENCER Wilder . . ." The will does not include a Jonathan Wilder Jr. Jonathan Wilder's son James Wilder left a will in Lancaster County, VA dated 26 December 1786. James' will names the same individuals as siblings as those recorded in his father's will and there is no mention of a brother named Jonathan. James and Jonathan's Wills were presented to the court for probate on the 21st of January 1788. William, John and Vincent were in Claremont County, South Carolina by 1797.
