Hicks, 86, widow of Robert E. Hicks Sr., died Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home. Born May 17, 1930, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Vance and Juanita Hancock Johnson. She was retired from Exide Battery in Sumter and was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxillary. Survivors include three children, Janice L. Deaton (Kenneth Meggs) of Gaston, Robert E. Hicks Jr. of Tampa, Florida, and Gladys McLeod of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren, Vickie Rivera (Fabian), Elizabeth Devoll, Becki Robinson (Will), Tracy Meggs, Kevin Meggs, Angela Heminridge and Adrian Meggs; great-grandchildren, Mason Rivera, Olivia Meggs, Bella Meggs, Alex Williams, Haley Robinson and Lindsey Robinson; and a sister, Alberta Ivy, of Greenville. She was preceded in death by three children, Carol Devoll, Linda Humphries and Gail Turner; her first husband, Joseph "Jake" Cook; brothers, Woodrow Johnson, Willie Johnson, Joe Johnson, Robbie Johnson, Hillard Johnson and Edgebert Johnson; and sisters, Inez Arrants and Bunell McCoy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75262-0309 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Palmetto Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
