| HIST | LOIS A. HENDRIX Posted Friday, February 11, 2022 6:00 am Lois A. "Avanell" Hendrix, 90, wife of Ernest Hendrix, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at her home. Born on Aug. 10, 1931, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Heyward and Mattie S. Brown. She was a very active member of Harmony Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years, taught Awanas, was a member of the choir and volunteered for the jail ministry. She was a member of the Gideons. She retired from Korn Industries and, following her retirement, she was employed by Sumter Laundry and Cleaners. Survivors include her husband of 54 years; two children, Randy Osteen (Dee) of Manning and Annelle Smith (L.D.) of Summerton; four grandchildren, Darla Lowder, Stacy Osteen, Tina Timmons and Jonnelle Atkins; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Courtney Hodge and Eaddy Osteen. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Drew Choate and the Rev. Dan Keaton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church cemetery near Bishopville. Members of the Gideons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Harmony Church, P.O. Box 1878, Sumter, SC 29151 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
