| HIST | of Canyon Lake, Texas MATTIE V. LANE Posted: Wednesday, August 6, 2014 12:00 am CANYON LAKE, Texas - Following an extended illness, Mattie Virginia Stokes Lane, of Canyon Lake, went to be with her Lord on July 31, 2014. Virginia, age 76, was born on Aug. 23, 1937, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Richard and Essie Chandler Stokes. Virginia's family moved to Sumter, where she graduated from Edmonds High School in 1955. She was wed to James Thomas Lane on Aug. 9, 1957. She and her husband, James, enjoyed 58 years of marriage together. In 1957, Virginia and James moved to Lubbock, Texas, where James attended and graduated from Texas Tech University. Virginia provided resources for James' education by working for a cotton buyer and as secretary for the Lubbock Cotton Exchange. After James graduated, the couple moved to Seattle, Washington, where their only son, James Dale Lane, was born. Virginia loved the Lord and His church, and each time the family moved she made it a priority to seek out a local church where the family could attend. It was always her desire that Jesus would remain at the center of family life. Virginia was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake for 17 years. Virginia loved good music and enjoyed playing her piano, often entertaining family and friends. She also loved working with children and received many service awards from schools where she was active in substitute teaching, PTA, etc. A kind and loving wife, faithful mother and kind friend, Virginia is greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and also her son, James Dale Lane of Kyle, Texas. Virginia is survived by her husband, James Thomas Lane; sister, Frances Stokes Sease of Sumter; nephew, Michael Sease and his wife, Cindy, of Rock Hill, daughter, Jenna Sease, and son, Jackson Sease of Reading, Ohio; nephew, Jimmy Sease and wife, Ashleigh, and sons, Cooper and Connor of Sumter; and niece, Angela Lane Simmons and her husband, Mike Simmons, daughters, Jordan and Rose Simmons, and sons, Noah and Zacchaeus of Keller, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake, 13085 FM 306. Interment will follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home of Canyon Lake is in charge of arrangements, (830) 964-3050. [2] | |
