Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James Samuel Shirah Sr. and Peggy Jean Graham Shirah. Carol will be remembered for her strong personality and her love for collecting unique items, especially antique and vintage glass. Surviving are a devoted companion, Jerry Hayes of Sumter; a son, Herbert William Anderson IV of Greenville; three brothers, James Shirah Jr. (Carol) of Sumter, John Christopher Shirah (Wanda) of York and Patrick Ryan Shirah (Stacy) of Sumter; a sister, Patricia Reber (Bill) of Taylors; two grandchildren, Callie Nichols and Chandler Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Franklin Shirah. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Pinewood Cemetery with the Rev. Wanda Shirah officiating.
