"Bubba" McCutcheon, 78, husband of the late Patricia Anne McCutcheon, died Friday, December 5, 2014, in McLeod Hospice House, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 7:00 p.m. prior to the memorial Bubba was born March 25, 1936, in Clarendon County, a son of the late Jake McCutcheon and Carrie Evans McCutcheon. He attended Florence County schools in Lake City and Scranton and was a former member of the Lake City Unit of the South Carolina Army National Guard. Bubba was employed with David's Drive-In in Lake City from 1948 1962 and afterwards drove a truck for Lance Corporation from 1962 1964. He then served as Sales Manager for Schaefer Distributing Company and Chris J. Yahnis Corporation. In 1970, he opened "Bubba's Pit Stop" in Effingham, retiring in 1999. Bubba was an avid NASCAR fan, Cale Yarborough being his favorite driver, and loved Clemson football. Surviving are his daughters, Becky McCutcheon (Bo) Cooper of Florence, and Stephanie McCutcheon (Michael) Bethea of Lenoir, NC; granddaughters, Carrie Rebecca Cooper, Sierra Kirstin Bethea and Savannah Danielle Bethea; sister, Dee Jones of John's Island; a number of nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Carolyn White, Robin Bolin, Rebecca Rowell, Elaine Gaworski and Patty Messer Gerald. Bubba was preceded in death by his brothers, Barney Evans, Wendell Evans and Carl Evans, and his sisters, Kathleen Gardner and Winnie Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter, 1434 S. McCurdy Road, Florence, SC 29506.
