Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late John Alvin Braxton and Myrtis Annette Christmas. Joey was raised in Sumter, attending Sumter schools as well as Camden Military. He loved baseball and played with the Sumter Recreation Department in all leagues. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a lifelong Gamecock fan. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are three nephews, Jody Driggers, Chance Card and Dylan Braxton; four nieces, Michelle Driggers, Megan Braxton, Clarissa Braxton and Hannah Tolson; two brothers, John "Jay" Braxton of Missouri and Jeffrey Braxton of Sumter; three sisters, Barbara Ann Card and her husband, Ronnie, of Wedgefield, Stacy Tolson and her husband, Carey, of Hartsville and Tracey Lovelady and her husband, Phillip, of Sumter; and stepmother, Jeanette Jackson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the home. Services will be private.
