  HIST	of Louisiana ROBERT S. WATCHER Posted Wednesday, November 2, 2016 6:00 am Robert Stephen Watcher died on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016. Rob was born on Feb. 27, 1959, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, a son of retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Pete and Betty Uller Watcher. After graduating from Sumter High School in 1977, Rob earned a business degree from the University of South Carolina. He was an enthusiastic Gamecock fan and saw their most recent win over Tennessee shortly before his death. Rob was a talented pianist, an avid reader, a skilled golfer and an incredible fisherman. He loved being outdoors, in the swamp, and on the river or lake whenever possible. Those of us who knew and loved him will always remember and share stories of Rob's many escapades. He loved animals and frequently "rescued" pets, even once capturing (and later returning to the swamp) a live alligator to present to his surprised future brother-in-law visiting the family from New York City. There were other stories of being lost in the swamp or confronted by some dangerous animal or snake. Then there were stories of the rigors of his time in boot camp at Parris Island, where he successfully completed U.S. Marine Corps recruit training. After serving in the Marine Corps, Rob obtained his Merchant Marine credentials and worked for many years on oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana. Rob is survived by his parents; two daughters, Kayla Stewart and her husband, Nate, of Sumter and Lindsey Breitwieser of Bloomington, Indiana; three sisters, Mary (David) Swain of Greenville, Ann (Richard) Blum of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Amy Manweiler of Houston, Texas; a brother, Mike (Beth) of Sumter; 18 nieces and nephews; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew. He was predeceased by a brother, Tony Michael Watcher, in 2005. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic School Scholarship Fund, 11 S. Magnolia St., Sumter, SC 29150 or Sisters of St. Mary, 241 Lafayette Ave., Buffalo, NY 14213.
