| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina CHARLES ARTHUR SEGARS Posted Tuesday, November 21, 2023 6:00 am Charles Arthur "Yaya" Segars, 87, widower of Addie Louise Wise Segars, died on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at Covenant Place of Sumter. Born on Dec. 23, 1935, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Ray Virgene Segars and Louise Snow Segars. Mr. Segars was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Boyle Bible Class. He was a 1958 graduate of Clemson University, where he was an athletic trainer and cheerleader. He was a retired farmer and U.S. Navy veteran. Surviving are one daughter, Sarah Segars Barnes (Jack) of Sumter; four sons, Charles Arthur Segars Jr. (Barbara) of Sumter, William Camp Segars (Karen) of Hartsville, George Wise Segars (Darlene) of Sumter and Burrell "Billy" Raymie Segars (Nicolle) of Sumter; 15 grandchildren, Jack Barnes Jr. (Sally), Charlie Barnes (Sydne), James Barnes (Holly), Anna Louise Segars, Charles Segars III, William Segars, Hunter Segars (Anna), Maggie Segars, Liza Segars, Wise Segars, McClain Segars, Carlisle Segars, Jane Elizabeth Goodson (Dr. Jay Goodson), Raymie Segars and Andrew Segars; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Segars Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph James officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. A private burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boyle Bible Class and the Naomi Warner Coffee Club. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
