| HIST | of Katy, Texas JACOB C. ANDERSON JR. Posted Tuesday, September 2, 2025 3:57 pm Jacob “Jack” C. Anderson Jr., 91, beloved husband of Dean Bailey Anderson, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at his home in Katy, Texas. Born in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, on Dec. 30, 1933, to the late Jacob C. Anderson and Katherine C. Packard Anderson, he was the second of four sons. Jack spent his youth growing up in Buras and Franklin, Louisiana. After graduating from Buras High School in 1951, Jack joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War as a communications NCO. After four years of service, he studied at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During a break from school and working for Tidewater Oil, he met his future bride on a blind date to a Thanksgiving Day Texas versus Texas A&M football game, the two eloping eight months later in July of 1960. Jack eventually went back to school at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana Lafayette) and graduated in 1963 with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry, continuing from there to get his master’s degree from Clemson University in S.C. in 1965. Mr. Anderson was hired as a math professor at USC Beaufort, S.C., in 1965. He then became the director of the math department at the new Clemson University at Sumter in 1966, being promoted to director of the campus in 1970. Jack then became the first dean when the campus transitioned to the University of South Carolina at Sumter in 1973. He retired as dean emeritus in 1993. He made such an impact on the university and the Sumter community that they named the new campus library the Jack C. Anderson Library. In 1994, he and his wife moved back to Louisiana. While in Louisiana, he spent 25 years as a part-time customer care liaison for Dr. Lahaye, a local ophthalmologist. Most importantly, he was a true servant of Christ, living out his faith daily. Jack was an ordained deacon in the Baptist church, was a Bible teacher for over 50 years, served on the General Board of the S.C. Baptist Convention and served in various other capacities in the local churches, including financial and personnel committees. When he could no longer serve in those capacities, he still shared his love of Christ as he met and spoke with individuals that he came in contact with. He also believed in serving his community. He was a Mason, Rotarian, president of the Lion’s Club, president of the Committee of 100, member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, the Salvation Army, the United Way and Boy Scouts Council. He will be remembered as a man of incredible integrity and an amazing Christian model to his family, coworkers and friends. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Robert Anderson, Dan Anderson and David Anderson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years; his sons, Chris Anderson (Alicia), Brad Anderson (Libby) and a daughter, Deanna Ferguson (John); 10 grandchildren, Grant, Ryan, Patrick, Ashton, Jeremy, Rebecca, Jordan, Hannah, Sarah and Conley “Jr”; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. A memorial service will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy, Texas, at West Grand Parkway location on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritans Purse and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
