Main St., is still a hotspot for event planning and catering in the heart of Sumter. "We've been catering since 2003, but we've been in this building here since 2012," owner Delores Green said. The venue is a large, two-story building with authentic wooden floors and brick walls. The first floor is the casual area that seats about 100 people; it has a DJ booth, stage and bar. There's also a VIP balcony section that seats 16 people. The second floor is where most receptions take place, as it's more formal than the first floor, but both levels can be used for an event. For the past eight years, Green and her co-owner and husband, David, ran the business in Downtown Sumter. David passed away in November 2019, and Green took a break from the business. However, Green said she plans to get back in the game with catering and event services with new plans in store, such as building renovations. "I'm trying to move forward," Green said. From doing wedding receptions and special celebrations to catering on and off the premises, Green said Serendipity Cafe and Catering is looking to expand its options for its clients. "We're going to open it up so they can bring in their own caterers if they want," Green said. "I think it gives people more of an option, so it gives us both the opportunity." Though wedding season and Christmas is her busiest time of the year, Green also plans to host themed events to bring community members together and celebrate with good food and fun in Downtown Sumter. "We've got a lot of competition, but what makes us unique is we try to develop relationships with our clients," Green said. "We put our heart into everything, especially with the catering." Green said the food they cater is all made from scratch, and her staff is at the client's beck and call on the day of the event. She said they also try to be competitive in price and make the event or catering "affordable with flair." "I tell people, 'I can take your money, but I like to be honest with you.
