Sumter woman, 12-year-old killed in vehicle wreck Posted Sunday, May 3, 2020 1:55 pm SHELBIE GOULDING shelbie@theitem.com A 74-year-old Sumter woman and a 12-year-old were killed in a wreck on Saturday afternoon. Annie Henderson, 74, of East Charlotte Avenue, and Roxanne Coulter, 12, of Ruger Drive, were pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker. According to Master Trooper Brian Lee with the S.C. Highway Patrol, the two were involved in a two-vehicle collision when the 2002 Honda Accord they were in collided with a 2004 Buick Regal about 1:50 p.m. on Saturday on S.C. 53 (Narrow Paved Road) in the Shiloh community. Both drivers and the girl were transported to Tuomey. Coulter's Girls on the Run and math coach at High Hills Elementary School, Shasta Smith, said she coached Roxanne for two years and will always remember her as a positive young girl. She was currently in sixth grade. "Roxanne was just so sweet and kind. She was always just the biggest cheerleader on that team. She just always had a positive attitude," Smith said. Smith said she'll always remember the smile on Coulter's face when she finished the Girls on the Run 5K in Columbia last year. "She was just that kid that you knew was always going to do the right thing, and she's one of the ones you remember," Smith said. "I'm just honored to have even been her coach. I'm definitely thinking of her family and lifting them up." An autopsy was performed Monday at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The next of kin for the two have been notified. According to Lee's investigation, the driver of the Regal was wearing a seatbelt; Henderson and Coulter were not. The multi-disciplinary accident investigation team is assisting the state highway patrol in the investigation of the wreck, along with the coroner's office.
