Born on Aug. 11, 1939, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Brown C. and Zonie Viola Mitchum Carter. Survivors include four children, Ramona Thomas (Max) of Florida, and Allen Grooms Jr. (Patricia), Charlie Grooms and Geneva Pate (Bruce), all of Sumter; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Callen; two brothers, Leroy Carter and Ernest Carter; and a sister, Delma Templin. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Cemetery of Darlington County in Timmonsville with the Rev. James McElveen officiating. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1]
