| HIST | TIMOTHY JOHN GARDNER Posted Thursday, September 14, 2023 6:00 am Timothy John "T.J." Gardner, 34, husband of Krystal Hawkins Gardner, died on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. Born on June 19, 1989, in Athens, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Alton Wade Broxson and was reared by his grandparents, Carolyn and Mike Cook. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in Afghanistan. He was employed by Black River Electric Coop. He was a proud supporter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Survivors include his wife; two children, Wyatt Gardner and Hollie Gardner; mother-in-law, Lynn Hawkins; stepmother-in-law, Glenda Hawkins; and special friends, Brian Beaty, Taylor Martin, Jake McCall and Dakota Curtis. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel. Memorials may be made to the NWTF, 770 Augusta Road, Edgefield, SC 29824-0530. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. Sumter electrical lineman dies after job accident in Kershaw Posted Wednesday, September 13, 2023 4:20 pm BY ALAYSHA MAPLE alaysha@theitem.com A Black River Electric Cooperative lineman succumbed to injuries sustained in a work accident on Tuesday. According to BREC CEO Charlie Allen, the individual was working with a crew on Canty Hill Road in Cassatt, located in Kershaw County, when he made contact with a piece of equipment that had become energized. Efforts were made to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived. The lineman was taken to the Medical University Health Kershaw Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, BREC reported. “Black River is a close-knit family,” Allen said, are “devasted with this loss.” Allen described the lineman as having “the best personality” and “loved to talk to everyone and adored his wife and children.” “Words can not express how much he will be missed,” Allen said.
