Mrs. Merritt was born in Mullins, SC daughter of the late John and Herbert Mae Collins Marlowe. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and retired from Pee Dee Farm Credit and J.C. Penney. She was active as a Hospice volunteer, a volunteer for Cooks for Christ and Disaster Relief, and had been secretary and treasurer for the Woodmen of the World Lodge 52. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Wendell Merritt, who passed away on June 27, 2020; granddaughter, Tori Gomez; brother, John W. Marlowe. Surviving are her children, Donna (David) Bair, Angela (Rick) Gomez, Renee (Frankie) Melton, and Andrew Merritt; grandchildren, Brian, Dawn, Ashley, Hunter, Heather, Taylor, Aaron, Jesse, Hailey, Andrea; 16 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hebron Baptist Church Disaster Relief, 8655 Francis Marion Road, Scranton, SC 29591. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 27, 2023 at Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
