| HIST | JAMES DOUGLAS MIXON Posted Friday, February 21, 2025 11:35 am James Douglas Mixon, 86, husband of Jeanette Sims Mixon, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at his home. Born Feb. 13, 1939, in Sumter, he was a son of the late David Furman Mixon and Annie Mae Brown Mixon. Mr. Mixon was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He served in the S.C. National Guard and retired from GTE Corporation after 38 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and riding his motorcycles. Survivors in addition to his wife of 63 years include a son, Dwight Mixon (Susan “Mimi”); two granddaughters, Ashleigh M. Pack (Conner) and Kaylee Grace Mixon; one great-granddaughter, Hadley Grace Pack; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon L. Mixon, and his three siblings, Dorothy Weaver, David Lee Mixon and Barbara Ann Wadford. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, in Sumter Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Holley. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be sent to Southside Baptist Church, 1116 Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. [1] | |
