Vivian, also affectionately known as "Lucy," was born on Dec. 9, 1940, in the Ashwood Community of Lee County to the late R. Wilson Owens and Thelma Branham Owens. She was a member of Meadowbrook Church of God in Sumter, where she was a faithful Sunday School teacher for many years. When she became physically unable to attend, she remained faithful with her tithes until circumstances prevented her from doing so. Lucy followed in her mother's footsteps and became an outstanding cook. Her family enjoyed many family meals at her table, as she loved making a feast on holidays and other times throughout the year. She retired from Bosch Corp. She is survived by her son, Richard A. Hitchcock of Middleburg, Florida; granddaughters, Brittany Metz of Mineral Springs, West Virginia, and Caitlin Dore' of Jacksonville, Florida; along with great-grandchildren, Garrett Metz, Karley Metz and Camden Dore'. She is also survived by her brother, Ben Kenny Owens of Bishopville; sister, Linda DuCom of Sumter; and stepchildren, Cindy McArthur and Mark Baker of Sumter, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William Richard Owens, and sister, Eva Frances Owens Watson. Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, 221 Broad St., Sumter, with the service following at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Piedmont Cemetery in Bishopville.
