EPPERSON MANNING – Eunice Jackson Epperson, 88, widow of Joseph Norwood "Buck" Epperson, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter. Born May 14, 1920, in the Cane-Savannah area of Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Moultrie R. and Anna Singleton Jackson. She was a retired teacher's aide for Clarendon County Schools, a former nurse's aide at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, and a lifetime member of Manning First Baptist Church, where she was former treasurer of the Sunshine Pals Sunday School Class. She was a loving mother, and helped to raise her brothers, who lovingly called her "sister." Surviving are a daughter, Anna Epperson Bilton, and her husband Kenny of Manning; four sons, Michael Norwood Epperson, and his wife Doris of Bishopville, Dr. H. Wayne Epperson, and his wife Patsy of Manning, Francis Scott Epperson of Summerton, and Dr. William Jackson Epperson of Murrells Inlet; three brothers, Ralph S. Jackson and his wife Olivia of Gable, Scott H. Jackson, and his wife Rosanne, and Carl F. Jackson, and his wife Margaret, of Manning; nine grandchildren, Michelle E. (Rich) Gomez, of Charleston, Michael N. (Michie) Epperson Jr. of Florence, David (Bridgett) Epperson of Manning, Mary Epperson (Billy) Blevins of Columbia, Emily Epperson (Ryan) Way of Manning, Joey Epperson of Murrells Inlet, Katie Epperson of Murrells Inlet, Shawn Bilton of Sumter and Shannon Shawver of Columbia; four great grandchildren, Amber Timmons of Charleston, Harper David Epperson of Manning, Maggie Ellen Epperson of Manning and William Lawson Blevins of Columbia. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Moultrie R. "M. R." Jackson, Thomas "Jehu" Jackson, William J. "Billy" Jackson, W. S. "Jimmy" Jackson, Dr. Robert E. Jackson and Rudolph E. Jackson; and a sister, Edna Jackson Hinson. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Manning First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Selman and the Rev. Jerry Cottone officiating. Burial will follow in Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Epperson, Michael N. Epperson Jr., Joey Epperson, Shawn Bilton, Ryan Way, Billy Blevins and Rich Gomez. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and would like to thank NHC Healthcare of Sumter for their many kindnesses.
