EPPERSON Manning- Joseph Norwood “Buck” Epperson, 85, a retired market manager, died Wesnesday in a Charleston hospital. A rosary service will be at 6 p.m. Friday in Stephens Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Mr. Epperson was born in Sumter, a son of Joseph Epperson and Mary Hammond Epperson. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Summerton. Surviving are his wife, Eunice Jackson Epperson, four sons. Michael N. Epperson of Bishopville, Dr. Hugh W. Epperson and Francis S. Epperson, both of Manning, and Dr. William J. Epperson of Murrells Inlet, a daughter, Mary Anna E. Bilton of Manning, two sisters, Louise E. Wilson of Mayesville and Margaret E. Outlaw of Florence, nine grandchildren; and a great grandchild. The Sumter Item, on 24 Feb 2000, obit page reads JOSEPH N. Born Sept. 1, 1914, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Hammond Epperson. Mr. Epperson was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Summerton. He was a retired market mangager and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors beside his wife of Manning include four sons, Michael Norwood Epperson of Bishopville, Dr. Hugh Wayne Epperson and Francis Scott Epperson, both of Manning, and Dr. William Jackson Epperson of Murrells Inlet; a daughter, Mary Anna E. Bilton of Manning; two sisters, Louise E. Wilson of Mayesville and Margaret E. Outlaw of Florence; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Epperson and Bernard Epperson; and a sister, Jenny E. Glover. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with Deacon Charles Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael N. Epperson Jr., David Wayne Epperson, Shawn Kenneth Bilton, Joseph Norwood Epperson II, L. N. Glover Jr., Brian P. Epperson, Rusty Wilson and John Outlaw. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Wayne Epperson, Tanglewood Drive, Country Club Estates. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
