Matthew had married Nancy Brown and had two children. He inherited 200 acres on Jack’s Creek in his father’s will and settled there before the war. In 1781, Matthew was killed by the Tories in Clarendon County at Fort Watson. He left a son, William and three months after his death, another son, Matthew, Junior was born. His widow later married Membrance Williams and moved to (Alabama). Matthew Junior returned to Darlington County to live. [4] |
