Ref. W. Hoyt Poston - Sep 2, 1989 & Williamsburg County Deed Book C p.99 John Coward first showed up in the 1800 Census of Williamsburg County, SC. He had a land grant of 886 acres dated Feb 3, 1812, on south side of Lynches Creek in Williamsburg County. In 1820 he was in Marion County. On Dec 1, 1819 he purchased one tract of land containing 330 acres from James Myers of Washington County, Alabama. Same land originally granted to Daniel Myers, also a tract containing 799 acres, originally granted to Lewis Harrell (1790’s). Land was somewhere in Friendfield, SC area on north side of creek. He died in 1834 leaving a large estate and his widow Elizabeth (last name unknown) and several children; James, Solomon, Pallas, Isaiah, Jessie, and Ayrich. At least two of his sons moved to Charleston S. C. (James and Jessie). [6] |
