Caples Joseph Daniel “J.D.” Caples, 80, widower of Gwendolyn Barkley Caples, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at his home. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late James Sidney and Blanche Albright Caples. He owned and operated Caples Gulf for many years. Survivors include six children, Carroll Caples Player (Richard), Pam Jackson (Willie), Jeff Yasmine (Cindy), Kitty Caples (Billy), Sandy Culp (Edward) and Jimmy Barnes (Joann); three brothers, Sidney Caples, Billy Caples and Bobby Caples; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Betty Matthews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Carleen Strickland, Myrtle Brown and Mae Turner; and one brother, Louis Caples. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Billy and Kitty Caples, 81 Aubrey Circle. The family would like to say a special thank you to Jimmy and Joann Barnes for their loving and dedicated care.
