BARKLEY Posted Sunday, February 22, 2015 6:00 am Sarah Jeannette Barkley, 84, died on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at her home. Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Richard Sanders "Bubba" Barkley and Euline Osteen Barkley. Sarah worked at Harvin Packing Co. for more than 45 years, retiring at the age of 81. She was a lifelong devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Sunday school class. Sarah loved to work in the yard and garden. She took care of her father in his later years. Sarah was a beloved sister and a devoted aunt to her ten nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Surviving are: one brother, Richard Gilbert Barkley and his wife, Dot, of Sumter; one sister, Fannie Rebecca Barkley Ward Green and her husband, Lauren, of Sumter; four nephews, Richard Gilbert Barkley Jr. and his wife, Jennie, of Sumter, Michael Wayne Barkley and his wife, Donna, of Sumter, David Gregory Avin of Athens, Georgia, and Robert Edward Ward of Sumter; six nieces, Sandra Barkley Hogan and her husband, Joe, of Spartanburg, Susan Barkley Eleazer and her husband, Ha,l of Spartanburg, Belinda Barkley Morrow of Sumter, Beverly Barkley Owens of Sumter, Darlene Avin Thompson of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and Kathy Lynn Ward of Sumter and numerous great-nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Fraser officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be the great-nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2401 Bethel Church Road, Sumter. The family would like to thank Agape Hospice and her Visiting Angels caregivers Susan Ragin, Sara Hudson, Delores Hardy, Connie Deese and Irene Evans.
