  HIST	From his father he inherited The Oaks plantation in St. James Goose Creek Parish and a house and lot in Charleston. In 1787 he possessed 441 slaves and 7,744 acres in Prince William, St. James Goose Creek, St. Bartholomew, and St. Andrew parishes. However, in the late 1780’s he sold The Oaks and through grants and purchase obtained property on the Ashley River, including Stono, Millbrook (375 acres), and Vaucluse (354 acres) plantations. According to a 1795 tax return, he owned 232 slaves and 3,464 acres in St. Andrew.  [1]
