Julia Mae Poston Goncy, age 90, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at NHC Sumter. Born in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. Poston and the late Molly Hutchinson Poston. Julia worked as a nurse at Tuomey and retired in August of 1998 after over 28 years of service. She was a very caring and compassionate woman and was loved by all she met. She loved to cook, especially southern food, and enjoyed watching all sports, in particular, Jeff Gordon in NASCAR and Phil Mickelson in golf. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Surviving to cherish her memory is a daughter, Nancy Mefford and her husband George; two sisters, Kitty Pearson of Sumter and Bobbie Cox of Pamplico; four grandchildren, Brenden Mefford (Amber), Tia Mefford, Stacy Gerbode (Michael), and Julieann Mefford (Wilson); eight great grandchildren, Luca, Evelynne Jewel, Nathaniel, Christian, Randy, Aspen, Lily Grace and Hunter and several special nieces. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by; two brothers, Odell Poston, and Vernon Poston and one sister, Dorothy Jones. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
