  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina CORNELIA AMERSON BROWN Mary Cornelia Amerson Brown, 80, widow of Thomas J. Brown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 8, 2010, at her home. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James Corbett Amerson and Daisy Marian Lowery Amerson. She was a retired partner of Brown's Furniture and Bedding in Sumter. Cornelia enjoyed the fellowship and worship as a member of Harmony Church. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Lynn Brown McCaskill and son-in-law, Finley McCaskill, of Sumter; her son, William Russell "Rusty" Brown and daughter-in-law, Tammy Gardner Brown, of Sumter; and a brother, James Monroe Amerson and sister-in-law, Agnes Amerson. She was blessed to love and enjoy her grandchildren, Amy Leigh Brown Vohs and her husband, Brad Everett Vohs, Cary Nicole Brown, Thomas Finley McCaskill and his wife, Mary Margaret McRae McCaskill, and Seth Boykin McCaskill, all of Sumter; and a great-grandchild, Syndie Elizabeth Vohs of Sumter. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; their firstborn infant son, Thomas Alton Brown; and a sister, Bardelle Oxendine. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Drew Choate and the Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Finley McCaskill and Seth Boykin McCaskill; nephew, Wayne Oxendine; and special friends and co-workers, Stan Brown, Stanley McLeod, Jason Brown, Chad McLeod and Chase Keller. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Harmony Church, 1021 Sterling St., Sumter, SC 29153; Crosswell Children's Home, 11 Crosswell Drive, Sumter, SC 29150; The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401; the Darryl Worley Foundation, 325 Main St., Savanna, TN 38372; or to a charity of one's choice.
