| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina SARA R. VIOLETTE Posted Monday, December 16, 2024 10:14 am Sara R. “Betty” Violette, 90, widow of Robert L. Violette, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at her home. Born June 11, 1934, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Lever Ray and Irma Buckner Ray. She was a member of Springbank Baptist Church and retired from Sumter School District after 43 years of service. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jean “B.J.” Floyd (Rocky); a granddaughter, Jennifer Douglass (Benjamin); two great-grandchildren, Bryson Douglass and Allie Mae Douglass; and two sisters, Wilma Leviner (Wayne) and Iris Hardy. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin L. Ray, Edgar Ray and Kenneth Ray. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at Springbank Baptist Church and other times at the home of her granddaughter, 250 Waycross Circle, Sumter. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
