Ray, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Elex Benenhaley and Gertrude R. Benenhaley. Mrs. Ray was a member of Springbank Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include two daughters, Barbara Ray of Cayce and Patricia R. McLeod of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Joan Ray of Sumter; four grandchildren, Richard Ray (Lisa), Christin M. Dutcher (Ryan), Julie Ray and Brittany McLeod; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Vanover and Myrtle Benenhaley, both of Sumter. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Ray; and a brother, Elijah Benenhaley. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 2950 Camden Road. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1, 4, 5]
