FISHBURNE Posted: Monday, July 16, 2007 12:00 am Emily Elaine Hasell Fishburne, 88, widow of Bentley Gibson Fishburne, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at a local nursing facility. Born in Petersburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Morritt Hasell and the late Belle Calder Lanneau Hasell. She was retired with 29 years of service from the Sumter Daily Item, during which time she served as women's editor. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Comforter, Junior Welfare League of Sumter and the Cotillion Club, where she served as secretary for many years. Mrs. Fishburne attended St. Mary's Junior College, the College of Charleston and Coker College. Surviving are two sons, Bentley Fishburne Jr. and wife, Susanne, of Sumter and William Hasell Fishburne and wife, Beth, of Hilton Head Island; a daughter, Elaine Fishburne Broadwell and husband, Charles, of Sumter; a brother, Thomas Morritt Hasell and wife, Mary, of New Bern, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Henry Fishburne and wife, Faye, of Sumter; eight grandchildren, Emilie Edmunds, Charles Broadwell Jr., Andrew Fishburne, Matthew Fishburne, Timothy Fishburne, Kristin Shumaker, Katherine Fishburne and William Fishburne; eight great-grandchildren, T Edmunds, Anna Edmunds, Celia Edmunds, Emilie Hase Edmunds, Andie Fishburne, Zachary Fishburne, Emily Rose Fishburne and Ellie Broadwell; and special friends of NHC. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. John Barr and the Rev. Hamilton Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandson.
