| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina JOHN ALLEN WATT JR. Posted Friday, August 18, 2023 6:00 am John Allen Watt Jr., 82, husband of Martha Harrison Watt, died on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, at his home. Born on June 27, 1941, in Charleston, he was a son of the late John Allen Watt Sr. and Corrine Redden Watt. Mr. Watt was an active member of Sumter First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, sang with the choir and led the Wednesday night fellowship meal team for more than 30 years. He attended Clemson College. Mr. Watt was a past member of Sumter County Council and a member of the Fellowship Club at Sublette's Pond. Survivors in addition to his wife of 59 years include a daughter, Susan Watt Crouch (Tim) of Florence; a daughter-in-law, Angie Brown Watt of Sumter; five grandchildren, Hunter Watt, Jacob Watt, Harrison Crouch, Bennett Crouch and Brock Crouch; a brother-in-law, Eddie Harrison of Sumter; three nieces; and one nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John A. Watt III; and two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Harrison and Sally Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Sumter First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber and the Rev. Dr. Bob Calvert. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Hunter Watt, Jacob Watt, Harrison Crouch, Bennett Crouch and Brock Crouch, and Chris Harrison, Timmons Herring and Chad Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friends and Followers Sunday School class. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday in the fellowship hall at Sumter First Baptist Church and other times at the home.
