• Notes

According to this source, last name was spelled “Mailhet.” Early Charleston records speak of Pierre Mailhet, and a letter dated 1833 states that Pierre had two sons Peter and Gideon. “Burke’s Heraldry names Sainte Pierre Soule Mellette and brother Sainte Augustine. Pierre settled in Charleston. Thus it seems certain that this Pierre was the son of Jean.” [1, 3, 6]
