Born on Dec. 31, 1939, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Rupert Allen and Gladys Huggins McDaniel. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church at Oswego. He was a Mason, a member of the Cattlemen's Association and a member of Oswego Hunting Club. He retired from Central Electric Co. after more than 40 years of service. He served in the National Guard and was an avid USC Gamecock fan. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and "PaPa." He loved his family, especially watching his grandkids grow up. He enjoyed going to their ball games and dance recitals. He loved being outdoors, tending to his cows and spending time with his dogs, Buck and Hampton. He especially enjoyed fun, food and fellowship with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 59 years; three children, Richard Lewis "Ricky" McDaniel (Beth), Sharon Rogers (Stephen) and Ronald L. McDaniel (Becki), all of Sumter; five grandchildren, Bryan McDaniel (Lizzy), Emily McDaniel, Jessica McDaniel, Caroline Rogers and Meredith Rogers; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jimmy McDaniel (Betty) of Seneca. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester McDaniel and Allen McDaniel. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tim Whited officiating. Pallbearers will be Bryan McDaniel, Glenn Rogers, Bobby Lowder, Mark Brown, Larry Squires and Eddie Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles "Bubba" Brunson, Donnie Green and Bennie Craven. The family will receive friends at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 5575 Lodebar Road, Sumter, SC 29153. The family would like to express their appreciation to McKenzie Lowder, Sharon Christmas and the staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially Dan Garrison, for all of their loving care and compassion.
