| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Winnie Rethea Geddings Batten Batten, Winnie Rethea Geddings Winnie Rethea Geddings Batten SUMTER - Winnie Rethea Geddings Batten, 82, wife of Lorand Randolph Batten, Jr., died Thursday, January 21, 2016, in McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Born October 18, 1933, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Loring Mitchell Geddings and the late Alene McLeod Geddings. She retired from Bell South and was a member of Sumter First Church of God. Survivors include her husband of 66 years; two sons, Lorand "Buddy" Batten (Daisy) of Lugoff, and Robert Eugene Batten (Donna) of Keatchie, LA; three daughters, Janice Elaine Gardner (Tommy) of Rembert, Sandra Kay Arnold (Johnny) of Knoxville, TN, and Lisa Gainey Robbins (Robert) of Dalzell; seven grandchildren, Julie Smallwood Banister, Daniel James Smallwood, Troy Christopher Arnold, William Edward Batten, Elizabeth Nicole Olive, Joseph Henry Gainey, III, and Kayla Michelle Porter; a stepgranddaughter, Tiffany Standley; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Mildred Whitaker (Joe) of Queen Creek, AZ, Audrey Knight of Heath, TX, Frances Robinson (Bill) of Sumter, and Kathy Worthington (Bill) of Pocatello, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Geddings, Jr. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Edward Batten, Joseph Henry Gainey, III, C.B. Strange, Rick Leach, Sam Wator and Jose Rios. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621 or to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
