  HIST	Charles did post-graduate work as a resident in surgery at Harvard Medical School Service, Boston City Hospital and Columbia University Medical School Service, Bellevue Hospital, New York City. He was a fellow in anesthesia, surgery and neutrosurgery at the Lahey Clinic, Boston, and thereafter a member of the staff. He was the author of and presented papers on surgery published in medical journals at this time. Dr. Lemmon was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He returned to practice surgery in Columbia, (South Carolina) and was a member of the staff at the Baptist, Columbia and Providence hospitals. He served as chief of surgery at the Baptist Hospital. He was a surgical consultant at the Fort Jackson Army Hospital and the S. C. Department of Mental Health. He was elected by the S. C. Medical Association to the board of directors of Blue Shield of S. C. and served as secretary of the board for many years. He was vice president of the Columbia Medical Society, The Medical Journal Club and the S. C. Surgical Society. After retiring from surgery, he was a medical director at Blue Cross Blue Shield of S. C. He wa a member of the Forest Lake Club.  [2]
