| HIST | The following records information was provided to Tom Land by Tom Abercrombie (taberc@@mnsinc.com, a professional researcher in Louisa County, VA near Charlottesville, VA) and posted by Tom to the SINGLETON-L list in January, 1997. Excerpts are included here to demonstrate a kinship connection between Daniel Singleton and Phillip Singleton, Orange Co., VA, and the Robert Singleton family of Gloucester Co., VA who moved to Sumter, SC, with Robert's brother COL Matthew Singleton and about whom several messages have been posted by COL George Lightfoot Singleton (GSingle556@@aol.com). Daniel Singleton's will, 1794, Orange County, VA, abstracted here, lists his children: Orange WB 3 p. 314 Will of Daniel Singleton: "To my son Manoah Singleton, to my daughter Lois Looker [sic, Lucas, husband = Thomas Lucas] to my son Edmond Singleton, to my daughter Susannah Lancaster, her present three youngest daughters Sarah, Susannah and Elizabeth, to my daughter Martha Proctor, to my daughter Joannah Lancaster, to my daughter Mary Perry, appoint my friend Richd. C. Webb and my two sons-in-law Uriah Proctor and Richard Lancaster, exors 10 Nov. 1792. wit. Samuel Mason, William Bennett Webb, Goodrich L. Granst. Rec. 27 October 1794". Conveyances recorded in early Orange County, VA demonstrate that Daniel and Phillip Singleton, possibly sons of Christopher Singleton b. 1699, Isle of Wight, England and later, of Gloucester Co., VA, purchased land adjacent to each other in Orange: ODB 14 p. 206 29 Dec. 1766 Philip Singleton of Bedford Co. to Nicholas Jones of Orange for 9£30 for tract whereon Nicholas Jones now lives cont. 100 acres adj. NOTE: Daniel Singleton first appears in Orange Co. in 1737 as a young man with one tithable. Phillip Singleton purchases land in Orange Co. in 1741. This land is the 100 acre Haley tract mentioned above, on Mine Run in Orange, recorded 25 June 1741. Good news! Susannah ----, Sgt VA PNSR* There is a reference in 1738 Caroline County Virginia records where a Daniel Singleton acknowledged a deed to his sons, James and Robert. Could this be the Robert who died around 1742?
