ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Jane Smith Geddings, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 4, 2009.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Catawba Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Richardson and Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Sumter, S.C., Mrs. Geddings was a daughter of the late James Edward Smith and the late Cecelia Reynolds Smith. She was retired from York Technical College and enjoyed visiting the beach and the mountains. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and had a strong Christian faith. She was devoted to her family and loved her church. Mrs. Geddings was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Roy Smith; and her sister, Ruby Hickson.
Surviving are her husband, Harry Wilburn Geddings Sr. of the home; her daughter, Kay G. Dunbar and her husband, John, of Rock Hill; her sons, H.W. "Bill" Geddings Jr. and his wife, Anita, of York, and Michael Geddings and his wife, Cheryl, of Rock Hill; her brothers, Sidney Smith of Dalzell, S.C., Alfred Smith of Sumter, S.C., Jesse Ray Smith of Lamar, S.C. and Harry Smith of Kannapolis, N.C.; her sister, Ethel Gibbs of Timmonsville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Matt Dunbar (Katherine) of Greenville, S.C., Emily Dunbar of Charlotte, N.C., Jennifer Hawkins (C.B.) Of Clover, S.C., Josh Geddings and Bethany Geddings, both of Rock Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Ayden Hawkins and Susannah Dunbar.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., and other times at the home, 158 Westerwood Drive, Rock Hill, S,C.
