Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2009, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery. Visitation is 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the funeral home and at other times at 151 Chapman Street, Chesterfield, SC. Mr. Rivers was born September 15, 1912, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Robert Edgar and Minnie Lee Sanders Rivers. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, and was a retired clerk and rural letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Rivers was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was an artist and was well known for his paintings of Family Coat of Arms. Edgar was an avid historian and outdoorsman and enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed talking with folks all over the world. Mr. Rivers was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and attended Hopewell Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his first wife, Alene McLaurin Rivers, and by a brother, William Wendell Rivers. Survivors: wife: Catherine Rollins Rivers of the home; 1 brother: A. Don Rivers of Charlotte, NC; nephew: Donnie (Diane) Rivers of Charlotte, NC, great-nephews: Trey (Lindsey) Rivers of Raleigh, NC, and their children Hayden and Madison, Brandon Rivers of Charlotte, NC, and Ben Cazalas of Charleston, SC. Memorials may be made to Chesterfield Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 388, Chesterfield, SC, or a charity of one’s choice.
