| HIST | of Dalzell, South Carolina Date Published: July 27, 2008 RUTH BENENHALEY DALZELL -- Ruth Mertis Ray Benenhaley, 73, wife of Wallace Benenhaley Jr. for 55 years, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her home. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Bertrand Ray and the late Gladys Benenhaley Ray. Mrs. Benenhaley was an active member of Springbank Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of Dalzell; two children, Sandra Smith (Hayward) of Lynchburg and Ronnie Benenhaley (Jo Ann) of Dalzell; three grandchildren, John Pittman Jr. (Tammy), Christina Keels (Brad) and Daniel Benenhaley (Cathy); six great-grandchildren, Wesley Pittman, Windsor Pittman, Trenton Keels, Keaton Keels, Ethan Benenhaley and Abbigayle Ruth Benenhaley; a brother, Glen Michael Ray of Dalzell; and three sisters, Evelyn Buckner (Chic) and Francis Wagner, both of Dalzell, and Mazie Skladanek (Joe) of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ansley Ray. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Polk Sanders, Larry Hood, Ansley Ray Jr., Mike Smyrl, Joseph Skladanek and Keith McMickell. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Ackerman and the staff of S.C. Oncology Associates of Columbia; Dr. Stanley Juk, cardiologist, of Columbia; Dr. Billy Clowney and Dr. Phil Brandt; and a special thank-you to Tri-County Hospice.
