BEARD Jr. COLUMBIA -- Service for Frank Powell Beard Jr., 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with burial in Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Beard died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Frank Powell Beard Sr. and Ruby Chappell Beard. A naval veteran of World War II, he received a degree from the University of South Carolina. He retired after 38 years with Giant Cement Co. Mr. Beard was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 55 years. Surviving are his wife, Jeannine Aycock Beard; daughters and sons-in-law, Janis B. and Robert M. Cunningham of Lincolnton, N.C., Caroline "Cappy" and Sid George of Columbia and Martha B. and Chip Grant of Columbia; son, Frank P. "Chip" Beard III of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, John C. Beard of Bishopville; grandson, William Cunningham; and granddaughters, Caroline Cunningham, Anna Cunningham, English Grant, Chandler Grant and Mary Sydney George.
