| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Dukes celebrate 60 years Posted Sunday, March 22, 2015 6:00 am Mr. and Mrs. Curry Cornelious Dukes of Sumter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 18, 2015. Their three children and their spouses are: Eddie and Beth Dukes and Martha and the late Nelson Cribb, all of Sumter, and Glenn and Angelia Dukes of Georgia. The couple has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dukes is the former Mary Ellen Nunnery of Sumter. CURRY CORNELIUS DUKES Posted Saturday, October 2, 2021 6:00 am Curry Cornelius Dukes, 87, husband of Mary Nunnery Dukes, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born Dec. 25, 1933, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Sam Curry Dukes and Carrie Evans Dukes. Mr. Dukes was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and other duties for many years. He retired from Sumter School District 2 in 1997. He never met a stranger, would go out of his way to speak to someone he knew and always prayed for those around him. He shared his birthday with Jesus and never missed an opportunity to talk to others about salvation. He was an exceptional example of a loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by many. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 66 years, are his children, Eddie Dukes (Beth) and Martha Dukes Cribb, both of Sumter, and Glenn Dukes (Angela) of Braselton, Georgia; five grandchildren, Chassity McClam (Derrick), Mike Cribb (Allison), Toby Dukes (Lauren), Maggie Dukes and Jared Dukes (Elizabeth); five great-grandchildren, Mariah McClam, Marlee Cribb, Clay McClam, Collin Cribb and Dallas Lloyd; two brothers, Harold Dukes (Naomi) and Gene Dukes; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Edward Dukes; a son-in-law, Nelson Cribb; a brother, J.S. Dukes; and two sisters, Blanche Baker and Helen Rabon. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Bishop and the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Cribb, Collin Cribb, Clay McClam, Derrick McClam, Jared Dukes and Toby Dukes. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be sent to Northside Memorial Baptist Church, 1004 N.
