DOROTHY KOLB ABBEVILLE - Dorothy Currie Kolb, 91, widow of Charles Herbert Kolb, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at Abbeville Nursing Home. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William L. Currie Sr. and Vara Barden Currie. Mrs. Kolb was a member of Sumter First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a graduate of Columbia College, taught at the Pinewood School and Mayewood School and taught English and drama at Thomas Sumter Academy. Survivors include two children, Kathy K. Smith (Clyde) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dr. C. Allen Kolb (Cheryl) of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Chad Smith of Texas, Elysa S. Tuten (Wes) of Charleston, and Alison Kolb and Stephen Kolb, both of Abbeville; and one great-grandchild, Zoe Tuten. She was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Currie Jr.; and a sister, Kathrine C. Vaughn. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Sumter First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Sumter First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
