Posted Sunday, June 26, 2016 6:00 am Murl Anthony White Jr., 79, husband of Jo Clark White, died Friday, June 24, 2016, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia. Born April 28, 1937, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Murl Anthony White Sr. and Grace Lundy White. He joined Aldersgate United Methodist Church in 1962. He was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class and served on numerous boards at Aldersgate. Mr. White attended Clemson University and was an avid Clemson fan. He was owner and President of Radio Communication Service for more than 45 years and served on many Motorola Boards. He was an avid golfer and member of Sunset Country Club. He also served as President of the Sertoma Club and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a board member of Santee Summer Ministry for many years and was a member of the Coin Club. Survivors include his wife of 54 years; a son, David C. White (Shawn) of Sumter; two grandchildren, Christopher White and Ellie White; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Peggy Clark of Sumter. He was preceded in death by a son, Murl Anthony "Tony" White III; and a sister, Jeannine White Langley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston and the Rev. David Day officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Carl White, Doug Hammond, Lenny Cummings, Phillip Clark, Bob Reardon and Johnny Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wesley Fellowship Class of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and employees of Radio Communication Service. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
