| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina JO CLARK WHITE Posted Saturday, August 3, 2019 6:00 am Jo Clark White, 78, widow of Murl Anthony White Jr., died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Covenant Place. Born Jan. 29, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Warren B. Clark Sr. and Fannie James Davis Clark. She lived in Manning until she married Murl in 1962. They were married for 54 years. She graduated from Manning High School and attended Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina. She graduated from Clevenger Business College in Sumter. She was a caregiver to all of her family. Mrs. White was a longtime member of 56 years at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, where she served as secretary. She taught the four and five year old Sunday school class for 10 years. Survivors include a son, David Clark White (Shawn); grandson, Christopher White (Elizabeth); granddaughter, Ellie White; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Clark. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Murl A. "Tony" White III; and a brother, Warren B. Clark Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Day and the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher White, Hugh Hodge, Clint Hodge, Philip Clark, Johnny Odom and David McClun. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and her Wednesday afternoon bridge club. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Covenant Place and MSA Tri-County Hospice for all of the care and compassion.
