| HIST | of West Columbia, South Carolina News - Obituaries Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 Octavia Mitchum Wright WEST COLUMBIA — A funeral service for Octavia Mitchum Wright, 97, of West Columbia, will be held 11 o’clock on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Park Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Samuel G. Catoe officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o’clock. Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 2204 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. Octavia Mitchum Wright went to be with her God on August 25, 2009. Born February 14, 1912, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Hilda Watts Mitchum of Eutawville, SC. Tavia, as most people knew her, worked at the Department of Social Services, Child Support Division, for over 20 years. She retired for 19 years and then returned to work with DSS on a part time basis until she was 91 years young, at which time she retired permanently. Octavia was a member and Sunday School teacher at Park Street Baptist Church for over 70 years of her great life. She always said she loved nothing better than teaching her young children at Park Street. Octavia is survived by her son, J. T. Wright of Lexington; granddaughter, Tasha Curtis and husband, Donald; three wonderful great-grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler and Hayden Curtis of Irmo; and former daughter-in-law, Toni Wright.
