| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina ANNIE RUTH GRIGGS Posted Thursday, December 15, 2022 6:00 am Annie Ruth "Anne" Griggs, 85, widow of William David Griggs, died on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at the home of her son in West Columbia. Born on June 22, 1937, in the Ashwood community of Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Pleasant Baker and Annie Mae Johnson Baker. She retired from Coker's Department Store in Bishopville, where she was a buyer for the infants' and children's department and also worked with Belk Department Store. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church near Bishopville. Survivors include two sons, Mark Griggs (Elizabeth) of West Columbia and David Griggs (millie) of Columbia; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Junius Baker; and two sisters, Esther Barfield and Arlene Baker. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tom Marlow, Rolfie Griggs and Ashley Griggs.
