ROBERTS Sr. Clinton Odell Roberts Sr., 82, widower of Dorothy Mae Robertson Roberts, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at a local nursing home. Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, (803) 775-9386. Date Published: May 6, 2009 CLINTON O. ROBERTS Sr. Clinton Odell Roberts Sr., 82, widower of Dorothy Mae Robertson Roberts, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at a local nursing home. Born in War Eagle, W.Va., he was a son of the late John Preston and Pearl Mae Holderfield Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a member of Bethesda Church of God and Green Acres Assembly of God. He was a retired U.S. Navy chief warrant officer W-2 and a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was active in nursing home and prison ministries, where he served Hopewell Healthcare Center and Windsor Manor Nursing Home for 23 years. Surviving are four sons, Clinton Odell Roberts Jr. and wife, Gail, Jonathan Paul Roberts and Gary Eugene Roberts and wife, Stacey, all of Sumter, and Dennis Ray Roberts and wife, Dana, of Tennessee; seven daughters, Beverly Ann Peterson and husband, Pete, Deborah Christine Sandifer and husband, Bruce, Linda Faye Robinson and husband, Joey, Brenda Kaye Roberts, Denise May Roberts and Steven Bartlette, Melissa Sue Kunkle and husband, Andy, all of Sumter, and Camilla Gail Berry and husband, Howard, of Chapin; a brother, Bill Monroe Roberts of Sumter; four sisters, Olene Hobson and Nyra Hinkle of Sumter, Vanzlean Eggman of Tucson, Ariz., and Linda Nichols of Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Carolyn Sue Fowler and Patricia Diane Raffield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Collins and the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Melissa Kunkle, 3135 Tuckaway Drive.
