| HIST | Why is he a Jennings instead of Dangerfield? jkh of Columbia, South Carolina Hugh Jennings | Visit Guest Book COLUMBIA - Hugh Garrett Jennings, 71, beloved husband of Judith Motley Jennings, his wife of nearly 50 years, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at North Trenholm Baptist Church with Paul Ballard, Steve Baughman, Curtis Cameron and Joe Copeland officiating. Interment will follow the service in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Hugh's four eldest grandsons, Garrett, Andrew and Tyler Owens and Joseph Hiltner and longtime friends, Don Brown and Irv Stubbs. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of North Trenholm Baptist Church as well as the members of Pam Cate's Sunday School Class. The family is at 16 Moonglo Circle and will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Born in Rock Hill to the late Iberia Coward Jennings Dangerfield and Burley Jennings, Hugh spent his childhood in Rock Hill. He moved to Columbia at the age of eight. He graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1958. Hugh loved the Lord and his family. He began his service to the Lord as a training union director and deacon while attending Parkview Baptist Church. He continued his service for the Lord at Jackson Creek Baptist Church and Pontiac First Baptist. The Lord led him to North Trenholm Baptist Church during the last seven years where he enjoyed serving as a deacon until his death. Hugh also served his community as a Mason. Hugh had retired from Sarah Lee Corporations (PYA/Monarch) after 34 years. He had received numerous recognitions and awards during his employment. In addition to his beloved wife, Judith, he leaves to cherish his wonderful memory his two daughters, Denise Jennings Owens (Gerald 'Butch') and Danielle Jennings Hiltner (James 'JD'), all of Columbia; six grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew and Tyler Owens, Joseph, Jacob and Deidre Denise Hiltner; brother, David Jennings (Alice) of Rock Hill; nieces, cousins and numerous brothers and sisters in Christ. Preceding him in death was his first born daughter, Deidre Iberia Jennings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winyah Community Hospice, 305 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.
