| HIST | at death- she had additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren News - Obituaries Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 Josephine Lawhon CAMDEN — Memorial services for Josephine “Jo” Smith Lawhon will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC. Josephine “Jo” Smith Lawhon, who died December 26, 2008, was born in Birmingham, Ala., November 23, 1918, the daughter of the late Grace Walter Smith and Joseph Clay Smith. She was the widow of the late Reverend Harry E. Lawhon, Jr. Jo attended the Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Ala., graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1938 and attended the University of Illinois. In 1941, she married Harry Ernest Lawhon, Jr., of Birmingham. They resided in Birmingham, Atlanta and Charleston, S.C. before moving in 1955 to Alexandria, Va., where she was employed by the Association of Rural Letter Carriers. After a brief time in Trenton, S.C., the Lawhon family moved to Camden, S.C. in 1961 where Harry served as Rector of Grace Episcopal Church. Jo taught kindergarten for a number of years before becoming Director of Grace Episcopal Church Kindergarten. After retiring from teaching she volunteered at the Gift Shop at Kershaw County Medical Center. In addition Jo served on the Camden Archives and Museum Commission including several terms as Chairman of the Board. Jo Lawhon is survived by three daughters, Kathleen L. Fletcher of Wayne, PA, Donna L. Trapp of Camden, SC, and Jenifer L. Lake of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Nalls DiLorenzo of Duluth, GA, Gregory B. Fletcher of Dollar, Scotland, Stephen L. Fletcher of New York, Mark V. Evans and Harry M. Evans of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Michael T. DiLorenzo and Isabella R. DiLorenzo of Duluth, GA, and Imogen G. Fletcher of Dollar, Scotland. She was predeceased by her daughter Helen L. Nalls, her sister Mary Jane Smith Paradiso, and brothers, Niles B. Smith and William P. Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to the Grace Episcopal Church Kindergarten, 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden SC 29020 or Camden Archives, 1314 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.
