It is believed that in the early part of 1700 two brothers of the name of Stiles (their given names not remembered) came out to this country from the Island of Bermuda, one of whom settled in South Carolina, the other in the state of Georgia. In the latter part of the summer of 1848, he moved up to Sumter County, near Providence, South Carolina. He purchased a small farm there. He moved from Providence to Sumter, where he had purchased a town lot, and built a residence in October 1855. His funeral services were preached by the Reverend Dr. Donald McQueen. His pall bearers were- Colonel James D. Blanding, Captain John S. Richardson, Captain Anthony White, Captain Lucious P. Loring, Mr. Henry W. Gardner, and Mr. David J. Winn. [4, 5, 6] |
